Odell Thurman In Trouble Again

You think you're safe to read things regarding the Cincinnati Bengals and then things like this happens:

"The Erie County Sheriff's office has issued a felonious assault warrant for former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred May 27 at Kalahari Waterpark Resort, according to the Sandusky Register. The newspaper said Thurman was indicted by an Erie County Grand Jury, and authorities are looking for him." (Dayton Daily News)

Well then. The former Georgia Bulldog is being accused of punching a man in the face. That seems to be happening a lot lately. Thurman was reinstated to the NFL and back on the Bengals for a short time before getting cut by them back in May. And then in June he he had failed another drug test. It may be safe to say that his NFL playing time just might be over.

We Gonna Stay Healthy Chris Perry?

Chris Perry of the Cincinnati Bungals* has not had the NFL career he most likely hoped for. The 1st round pick was last seen on the field in 2006 against the Cleveland Browns. Now he's fighting for a roster spot.

We at TSD remember Chris Perry well. He was a Michigan Wolverine, so the TSD Buckeye fan scouted him well. In 2003 he finished 4th in the Heisman voting and won the Doak Walker Award given to the nation's top running back. That same year he had 154 yards in the Michigan win over Ohio State. Sorry to bring that up Buckeye fans but it happened. We have to deal with reality sometimes. Which is exactly what Chris is doing.

He's missed the last couple seasons with ankle issues (broken and dislocation) and right now is said to be only 85 percent healed. We'll see in the rest of this off-season if he will be able to increase his healing percentage or end up in the booth. I'm betting on the Big Ten Network if that happens.

*The Cincinnati NFL team will be known as the Cincinnati Bungals on this site until they get their act together.

Why Ahmad Brooks, Why?

Usually when a team kicks a certain player off of that said team, the players on said team would not do anything to maybe get themselves kicked of said team. Well Ahmad Brooks must have never received that memo.

Smart boy is being charged with punching a woman in the face. His court date is set for June 6.

I would just like to know if this is going to continue. If the Cincinnati Bengals' players are going to continue to get arrested and do nothing but stupidity, I can no longer root for them. I started rooting for them in the first place because of my dad. And then they started to hold a special place in my heart on their own. But seriously, how can I be fans of a team with players who just don't seem to care? I understand that they all aren't like that but it seems like every other week something else negative is going on with them. Just let me know Bengals. I tucked my Jets jersey (yes, a Jets fan since I was little) away for you. I can always take it back out.

Beginning To Appreciate Cincinnati Bengals 2nd Round Pick Jerome Simpson

I've been watching the NFL draft all day. And if you've been following me on Twitter, you'll know how I did not want the Bengals to select offense just defense. I was happy when Keith Rivers was selected at the 9th pick. DEFENSE! Then the second pick came around and the Cincinnati Bengals selected Jerome Simpson, WR from Coastal Carolina. Who? That is exactly what I said to myself after the pick. Wait a wide receiver? That's the second thing I said to myself. So at first, I was not appreciative. Thought the Bengals could have gotten another good player on defense. So then I had to Google him and find out who this new wide receiver is. And an article popped up by Jim Young from News-Record.com: Simpson's Route From Obscurity Nearly Complete.

".....Simpson dominate high school defensive backs, using his huge hands and springy legs to roll up 1,493 yards receiving in 2002 and catch 96 passes in 2003. Both years the Rams won state titles." ...."My mom always said, 'If you're good enough, they'll find you,' " he said. "Most definitely, they found me."(News-Record)

From the article, we find out that he comes from Reidsville, North Carolina. He almost went to play for East Carolina but felt that they pressured him too much to commit. So he went to a school hardly anyone has heard of, Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. Where he played for 4 years and became the Big South Conference's career record-holder in TD's and receiving yards. He also has a 41 inch vertical and ran the 40 under 4.5 twice. He also played in the East-West Shrine game and shocked the analysts including Todd McShay. He got put on the scouts radars after that. And now he will be in Cincinnati.

As much as I wanted the Bengals to select defense, with the release of Chris Henry and the drama with Chad Johnson, there is nothing wrong with picking THIS wide receiver here. Oh, and I here he has good character. Something the Bengals definitely need.

Cincinnati Bengals' '08 Schedule

"If ever a man proved his worth as a future head coach, Marvin Lewis did it with this complete domination of the Giants in their 16 possessions: Punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, interception, punt, interception, interception, punt, interception, punt, punt, punt, end of game" (Michael Silver, SI)

Thought I start this with a little irony. Now back to your regular scheduled reading.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 2008 NFL season has been released and being a Cincinnati Bengals fan I decided to take a look at what they have on the horizon. Their '08 schedule looks like this.

Sept. 7 @ Baltimore 1 pm
Sept. 14 TENNESSEE1 pm (day after my birthday!)
Sept. 21 @ NY Giants 1 pm
Sept. 28 CLEVELAND 1 pm
Oct. 5 @ Dallas 4:15 pm
Oct. 12 @ NY Jets 1 pm
Oct. 19 PITTSBURGH 1 pm
Oct. 26 BYE
Nov. 2 JACKSONVILLE 1 pm
Nov. 9 @ Houston 1 pm
Nov. 16 PHILADELPHIA 1 pm
Nov. 20 @ Pittsburgh 8:15 pm
Nov. 30 BALTIMORE 1 pm
Dec. 7 @ Indianapolis 1 pm
Dec. 14 WASHINGTON 1 pm
Dec. 21 @ Cleveland 1 pm
Dec. 28 KANSAS CITY 1 pm

Not sure how I feel about this schedule but I do know that I don't appreciate Sept. 21 and Oct. 5. Dec. 7 is inevitable since it seems they play Indy every other year anyway. I wonder if my dad knows? He's a huge Bengals fan. Been so since 1968. I'll have to call him and let him down gently. I'll have to pencil in those days as well of not getting a phone call from him. He doesn't call when they lose. Too upset. And of course the Bengals could surprise people and win those games. I will be rooting for them to win. The more they win, the less nerve-wrecked my dad is and the less he smokes during games. It's a win win for me.

Outside of their schedule, I have a question for everyone. With all this drama going on with Chad Johnson, how much do you want to bet Marvin Lewis will pass up ALL top defensive prospects for a wide receiver in the first round? Yes that would be crazy and stupid but we are talking about the Bengals here.

This Whole Chad Johnson Thing.....

I'm not sure what to make of all this. The possibility of Chad Johnson being a Redskin and not a Bengal next year does not exactly make me happy. I mean if they got a pro bowl type defensive back out of it and Chris Henry stayed away from the Cincy PD then I'd get over it. It seems though that I don't have to get over it.

“There is no such thing as behind-the-door dealings in the NFL. That does not occur because the team in question (the Bengals) is not willing to trade their player, nor have they thought about trading their player or discussed trading their player, or will they discuss trading their player. So I think that’s pretty clear. Things can move on." (Marvin Lewis, Cincinnati Enquirer)

Well that about sums it up, right? What do you think should be done? Should the Bengals trade Chad?

How Soon Will Willie Andrews Be Traded To Cincinnati?

Chris Henry may get his partner in crime Odell Thurman back, why not get him another one. When I heard about Willie Andrews, I wondered how Marvin Lewis missed this gem. Seems like his type of player. Besides, the Bengals have been boring without any arrest. And they SUCK! Sorry Daddy. I'll take it back.

This is hoping that Marvin Lewis makes another smart move in the off season. The Cincy PD will be waiting.

Odell Thurman Making A Comeback

The Dayton Daily News lets us know that Odell Thurman, the suspended Cincinnati Bengals linebacker, has been allowed to practice and train with the team. He has not been reinstated yet but is pursuing reinstatement. My favorite thing about this story is not that Chris Henry's partner in crime could make a comeback but the comments given by the readers of DDN when they were asked if he should be allowed to return.

hell yeah let him back -Nate

Are you kidding with this question. He should have been able to conme back last year. I personally think the COMMISH really had it in for us last year. Just wait until a really high profile player from a big market team gets into trouble. The punishments will be a lot smaller you’ll see. -Jerry

Well let’s see: Tank Johnson had enough guns to arm a small South American army and he was re-instated. Ricky’s been on the spliff train for years and he was allowed back in so yeah, Odell deserves the go ahead too. Let’s face it, our “D” really hasn’t been the same since the one year he played. I hope he goes from zero to hero again this year. We need him in case you naysayers haven’t noticed how lousy our defense has been lately. Especially, if Zimmer installs the 3-4. -ShockMonkey

Your hero’s aren’t statesmen, leaders, and people who find cures for cancer/various diseases, captains of industry, inventors, peacemakers (when they can), or theologians who preach finding peace with God…your hero’s are overpaid low intelligence trash that occasionally abuse any thing they can. You then let them off because somebody else did it and they got away with it? Ethics, values, integrity, truth, mean nothing to a person who catches a ball, it’s always someone else’s fault. Play ball! -Paul

Ricky Williams was able to come back, michael vick may come back and PATRIOTS CHEATED!!!! Thurman should be able to come back -Tiffany

You get the gist. Fans believe that since other players have done certain things they shouldn't and still got to play then why can't their guy get a second chance. Well, except for Paul. To read more comments click here. They're funny.

Chad Johnson Is A (Fill In The Blank)

MiamiSportsBlog.com saw the above mentioned at the Heat vs. Spurs game last night. (I feel like I've been talking about the Heat lately). Apparently he was being a little (fill in the blank) and getting upset that kids were asking for his autograph. PLEASE! They were kids, Chad. Do yourself a favor and get out your Sharpie. Do not make me drive down (greyhound) I-71 south and find you. I got people (my uncle) who know where you frequent (some jazz bar my uncle has gone too. Actually I think he said that he doesn't see him there anymore). Anyway, just sign the damn autographs. They are fans! It's part of your job whether you like it or not. Don't want to sign autographs? Don't go to a sports function where you will find other sports fans.

Bengals End Season With A Win

Marvin Lewis

Yay the Bengals win! Yay they end the season on a 2 game winning streak! Yay they end the season at 7-9! Oops got a little carried away there.

A disappointing season for the Bengals and their fans. Hopefully they can get things turned around next season. Marvin Lewis wants to blow things up. It better work!
