J-E-T-S! jets! Jets! JETS!

Hey peoples. I meant to post this yesterday when I got home but then I started watching shows that I DVRed and got caught up.

Anyway, Curtis Martin of the New York Jets announced his retirement yesterday and said that he is interested in owning an NFL team. I was a fan of Curtis Martin and will miss him in those green and white jerseys. He was an amazing running back and him being the fourth-leading rusher in NFL history proves that.

For those who don't know, I grew up rooting for the Jets. You might ask how I ended up being a Jets fan in Ohio. Well there were a few reasons:

1. When I was a little girl watching a Monday Night Football game with my uncles, they were all talking about their favorite teams. They looked over at me and asked me who my team was. Not wanting to be left out, I looked at the screen and saw a team with green jerseys and picked them. They asked why and I told them because they were green and my favorite color. Turns out that team was the Jets.

2. Another reason was because they were from New York. Ever since I took piano lessons and my teacher told me that if I practiced I could make it to Carnegie Hall one day. I asked where that was and he said NEW YORK CITY. He explained to me the bright lights of the city and people going there to make their dreams come true. For the longest time I wanted to move their because I thought the city would make my dreams come true. So I figured that I should continue to root for that team since I was going to live there.

Well, I never moved to New York and don't know if I want to anymore. I've been there and love the city but if I lived there I wouldn't be able to jump on public transportation and stand in front of Ohio Stadium. That's kind of a deal breaker.

Now I still root for the Jets every chance I get. But my dad has turned me into a Cincinnati Bengals' fan. No I didn't jump onto the bandwagon. I've always rooted for them. Mostly for my dad's sake. I couldn't stand my dad going through a pack of cigarettes during a Bengals' game. And I hated when they made him sad. But in recent years, I've been able to watch more Bengals' games then Jets and have grown to like them. And there is a slight chance that I could love them. Wait......did I just type that I think I could love the Bengals?

Please stop reading my madness and go watch The Simpson's Movie.

REDS WIN!

Maybe I should have doubted them in the beginning of the season. But no, I had to believe that this was the Cincinnati Reds year. Who was I kidding. But it seems that when I doubt them, they win. They beat the 1st place Milwaukee Brewers 7-3. Now they are only 17 games from .500. They'll get there.....right?

Who’s ready for football?

Living in Columbus, Ohio in the summer is kind of slow pace. Yes, summer is suppose to be relaxing but I'm bored. On Sunday is the AFL championships (GO DESTROYERS!), I have that to watch. But then what? Of course the Reds are on and I love them but watching them on TV isn't the same as watching them in person. Of course most likely they'll lose either way but still on TV regular season baseball games are a little boring.

So I'm counting down the days for preseason football. Yes, I'm actually excited about it. We'll ignore the whole Michael Vick thing going on right now and just talk about the games. A couple of years ago I worked at a sports bar and couldn't get how people were so adamant about watching a preseason Browns game. But I think I've caught the fever. Not for the Browns but for being able to watch football. So I had to find out when preseason actually began. Here's the list that I found on NFL.com. I know I can't be the only one who is jonesing for football.

Miss Serena

"I'll take off my shirt in a second -- locker-room girls don't have much shame. Once,I was getting ready to go out and my hitting partner, who is my best friend and, like, Greek god-handsome, walked into my hotel room. It wasn't awkward for me, but he freaked out. I told him we had to get married." -Serena Williams, Jane August 2007

For those of you who don't know, Jane magazine is done. Finished. The August issue is their last. The August issue also happens to be their body issue which they have celebrities strip down to their birthday suits. One celebrity that is featured in this magazine is none other than 8 Grand Slam singles title winner Serena Williams. Her quote from the magazine is above. Yes their were other female celebrities in their birthday suits but just one athlete. And this being a sports blog, Serena gets the mention.

Which League Would You Commish?

MLB has the steroid issue. NFL has the Michael Vick and dogfighting issue. NBA has the gambling officiater issue. The big 3 leagues are having issues right now. If you could be the commissioner of one of these leagues, which one would it be? Or if you were the commissioner of the NHL or MLS would you take advantage of this? I'm not saying talk down on these troubled leagues but talk yours up. If you're the NHL, try to get your star, Crosby, doing some commercials. Yes it's July, but you can't start promoting too early. And if you're the MLS, keep pimping Becks like you are. Show all his games on ESPN and get him more commercials. You can't go wrong with Becks.

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Barry! Happy birthday to you! Just wanted to wish Barry Bonds a Happy 43rd birthday today. Hopefully you'll have a better at bat on your birthday than yesterday.

THE BEST DAMN ROOM IN THE LAND! - Ohio State Buckeyes

This is for all Buckeye fans. How many of you want a room like this?

The Bronx Bombers

One of my best friends should be happy today because the Yankees routed the Devil Rays 21-4. Shelley Duncan, Hideki Matsui, Bobby Abreu and Alex Rodriguez were ones that didn't shy away from the home-run today. Alex Rodriguez hit # 498 today so that would make him (for those who can't add) 2 away from the milestone # 500.

The Yankees are 7 1/2 games out of first place and behind Cleveland and Seattle for the wildcard. Now the Red Sox might be faltering a little but I wouldn't get my hopes up. The Yankees should gun for that wild card spot. Yes Cleveland is a good team this year but since they've choked at the end of the season the last few years, who says they won't do it again?

Reds Lose Again :(

The Cincinnati Reds just fell to the Florida Marlins 9-3. This is their third straight loss to the Marlins in the 4 game series. Luckily they get to come home now after going 5-6 on their road trip. Next for the Reds will be the first place Brewers followed by the other team with a winning record in the NL Central, and the hottest team in baseball right now, the Chicago Cubs. Is baseball season over yet?

Beckham’s 12 Minutes of Fame

David Beckham finally appeased the fans at the Home Depot Center last night when he came into the game with 12 minutes left to play. Unfortunately, the LA Galaxy lost to Chelsea 1-0. But the game was just a backdrop to the madness of David Beckham. There was a sold-out crowd of 27,000 including his wife Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, Katie Holmes, Kevin Garnett, and The Governor. It was an A-list affair. How I wasn't invited is beyond me but I did watch it on television. Now I've never actually sat down and watched an MLS game (sorry Crew) and the only time I have been to Columbus Crew Stadium was for a concert. But I figured, it's not too late to become a soccer fan right? Who am I kidding, you know why I watched the game last night. The same reason everyone else did. I didn't want to watch the 2007 BET Awards for the millionth time.
