"I'd love to be there competing for the starting job...But it's a long contract, and I have to make sure it's fair in the event I become the starter." -Brady Quinn, Cleveland Plain Dealer
If I was Cleveland, I would give Daunte Culpepper a call and see where his head is at. It's not like Culpepper has a better chance at winning in Oakland. The only difference is that if he's in Oakland, he doesn't have to worry about snow. Besides, Culpepper might actually help Cleveland win. A one year deal couldn't hurt.
How many messages can one coach text in a day? Well he has just a few more hours to find out. As of August 1st, tomorrow, text messaging will be banned by the NCAA. So no more texting from coaches to prospective student athletes. Now, you have to actually pick up the phone and actually talk to someone. The NCAA will revisit this issue August 9th.
Football would not be what it is today without the influence of Bill Walsh. He died today at the age of 75. He was a groundbreaking coach winning 3 Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco and the developer of the West Coast offense. Thank you Bill for all you've done to the game.
The TBS show My Boys second season starts tomorrow! The excitement is in the air. I have spent today watching the first season, that is when I wasn't watching the Arena Bowl of course. For those episodes I DVRed. And of course am watching right now. Anyway, the show is one of my favorites as I have mentioned in the past and I can't wait to see what happens next to a girl who loves sports and hangs out with all guys. Sounds a little familiar to my life. Except she has the fabulous dream job of a sportswriter. But I have the fabulous dream job of a sports blogger. That's cool too, right?
Anyway, watch My Boys tomorrow at 10 pm on TBS. You will love the show. And if you miss it, I'll fill you in.
"To lose in the championship game you have to actually be in the championship game". Mike Greenberg couldn't have said it better. The Columbus Destroyers fell to the San Jose SaberCats 55-33 in ArenaBowl XXI. Yes, it would have been nice for an Ohio Team to actually win in the championships this year instead of losing but at least they were there. So I have to say thank you to the Columbus Destroyers for a great season!
The day has come! For those who don't know today at 3pm the Columbus Destroyers will face off against the San Jose SaberCats in Arena Bowl XXI. Are you excited? I am. And so is The Columbus Dispatch. As you know, I've kind of gotten on the Dispatch for it's coverage of the Columbus Destroyers. But being the good paper that it truly is, the paper has given them their love. The Destroyers get a story on the front page of the paper and on the front page of the sports section. Along with a few other stories inside the sports section about Arena Football. It's a lovely thing.
Here's a little back story on how both of the teams got to this point:
Columbus Destroyers(10-9): They started the season off 6-4 and then lost 5 in a row before beating New York on the road to clinch a birth in the post season. In the post season they have been the Cinderella team in upsetting Tampa Bay in the wild card game, Dallas, and Georgia. All of these playoff games were on the road.
San Jose SaberCats(15-3): They ended the season at 13-3. In the playoffs they beat the last two ArenaBowl champions Colorado and Chicago. They won the ArenaBowl titles in 2002 and 2004. They are the favorite in ArenaBowl XXI.
I figure the game to be entertaining, especially with Mike and Mike commentating. I try not to give predictions on teams that I care about. I'm scared my prediction will mess everything up. But I will have to get over this fear. Not today though. I want the Destroyers to WIN!
Happy Saturday everyone! I unfortunately have been up since 6:30 this morning. I was a little upset about waking up that early since I didn't have anything to do today. I mean it's Saturday. The day to sleep! Anyway, let me update you on some of the things that are going on in the world of sports.
- Brady Quinn did not report to opening day training camp with the Cleveland Browns because of a contractual holdout. Fortunately for the Browns, they are not that upset about it. Yes Brady Quinn could become the face of that organization but with him not showing up the Browns are looking towards Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson, or Ken Dorsey to be the quarterback. These quarterbacks do not have the star power that Brady Quinn does but at least they show up for work.
- 754! Barry Bonds hit home-run No. 754 last night in a 12-10 win against the Florida Marlins. Is it a coincidence that he hits this homer after Bud Selig left town?
- How could I not mention the Cincinnati Reds. They win on a rainy night 5-4 against the hottest team in the MLB, the Chicago Cubs. YAY! Crazy thing happened the other day. I was reading online (can't remember where) and someone mentioned that they can't wait until football season so that they could have a winning team to root for. And they were talking about the Cincinnati Bengals. Sorry, haven't gotten used to that yet.
